Gracias Juan Carlos y Emilius!!!!
Description
Grouping to Stabsfelwebel Werner Peters. Peters was part of the Infanterie Regiment 18 and later Infanterie Regiment 424 that was transformed into Grenadier Regiment 424. Peters fought in the Blitzkrieg through France and was send immediately to Russia afterwards. He was soon awarded the iron cross 2nd class, east front medal and infantry assault badge in silver. The unit later fought in the Demjansk area, Leningrad, Letland, Riga and the Kurland pocket. In these last regions Peters showed extreme bravery in the field, he was awarded the close combat clasp in bronze and silver, he was decorated with the wound badge in gold for 5 wounds and with the iron cross 1st class!!! For his acts end of 1944 he received an extra vacation period of the command because of his bravery acts.
The grouping contains all award documents from Peters, except for his EK1 and close combat clasp in silver, which he most likely never received. It also contains the original photo album with plenty of pictures, of Russia and France. Peters was also very active after the war and was a member of the veteran organisation of the 126 Infanterie Division. A few post war documents and pins come with that.
The iron cross 2nd class award document was signed by General d. Infanterie Paul Laux, Knights Cross and Oak Leaf winner, commander of the 126. ID. The Infantery assault badge in silver award document was hand signed by Generalleutnant Harry Hoppe, Knights Cross and Oak Leaf winner as commander of the Infanterie Regiment 424 and later the complete 126. Infanterie Division! The east front medal and the close combat clasp in bronze documents are both hand signed by Oberst Wilhelm (Karl August) Cappel, commander of the Infanterie Regiment 424 who was KIA in Latvia on 9.7.1944.
He was awarded the iron cross 2nd class, iron cross 1st class, infantry assault badge. Because of the late date it is most likely that the iron cross 1st class award document and the close combat clasp in silver award document were never awarded. A small, self written statement written on 11.4.45, signed by Hauptmann Dorenkamp shows that he was awared these high decorations.
