El objetivo de la ofensiva japonesa no era otro que "Destruir todas las tropas chinas que pudieran, para imposibilitarles tener el tiempo disponible para retirarse, reagruparse y prepararse. Además de asegurarse de que las tropas chinas no podrán prescindir del frente de Birmania".
Los periódicos occidentales contemporáneos mostraron la batalla como una victoria china. Filmaciones del Gobierno estadounidense muestran las victoriosas tropas chinas con prisioneros japoneses con las banderas y el equipo japonés capturado en la pantalla después de la batalla. Además, un noticiero americano titulado "Las tropas chinas conducen a los japoneses fuera de Changde" mostró las tropas chinas, con los japoneses muertos y capturados con ellos.
