Muchas gracias, Fangio.
Determinadas unidades norteamericanas (me refiero con esto a muy pocas) utilizaron un arma modificada a partir de una ametralladora originalmente montada en los SBD-Dauntless. Esta arma fue protagonista de una acción que le valió al soldado que la utilizaba la Medalla de Honor del Congreso.
¿De qué arma se trataba? ¿Cómo se llamaba dicho soldado?
Espero no habérmelas rebuscado mucho con la pregunta.

El soldado es el cabo de los marines Tony Stein. Se le concedio una MOH postuma por sus acciones en Iwo Jima
El arma que usaba es una ametralladora modificada de aviacion. La ANM2 .30-cal salvada de los restos de un Dauntless- Fue modificada con un bipode, una mirilla, gatillo etc A las asi modificadas se les denomino Stinger (Aguijon) siendo mucho mas portatil que las ametralladoras de posicion de las que disponian y sobre todo con mayor cadencia de fuego.

El Stinger era una ametralladora ANM2 .30 cal modificada con una culata de Garand y la mira trasera y el bípode proveninete de una BAR.
A Tony Stein le fue concedida la Medalla de Honor del Congreso por sus acciones en Iwo-Jima, el 19 de Febrero de 1945. Durante el asalto inicial a la playa, el se expuso para atraer el fuego enemigo y que estos así revelen su posición, disparando hacia las posiciones fortificadas japoneseas con su Stinger, el cual escapó de sus mano 2 veces por los impactos que recibió de lo japoneses, que de milagro no impactaron en Stein. Debido a la elevadísima cadencia de fuego del Stinger, Stein agotaba pronto su munición, tanto es así que tuvo que correr 8 veces hasta la playa para conseguir más, ayudando en cada uno de sus viajes a un Marine herido.

The first man of his unit to be on station after hitting the beach in the initial assault, Corporal Stein, armed with a personally improvised aircraft-type weapon, provided rapid covering fire as the remainder of his platoon attempted to move into position and, when his comrades were stalled by a concentrated machine-gun and mortar barrage, gallantly stood upright and exposed himself to the enemy's view, thereby drawing the hostile fire to his own person and enabling him to observe the location of the furiously blazing hostile guns. Determined to neutralize the strategically placed weapons, he boldly charged the enemy pillboxes one by one and succeeded in killing twenty of the enemy during the furious single-handed assault. Cool and courageous under the merciless hail of exploding shells and bullets which fell on all sides, he continued to deliver the fire of his skillfully improvised weapon at a tremendous rate of speed which rapidly exhausted his ammunition. el Capitán Isidro Navarro, en tierra, pero la primera fue el teniente Luis Alcocer, que murió el 2 de octubre cuando intentaba realizar un aterrizaje de emergencia con su Bf 109.
