Dear Friends,
I deeply regret to inform you of the passing on Monday night of Eliezer (Eli) Zborowski z"l, our dear friend and partner, Chairman of the American Society for Yad Vashem and a Member of the Yad Vashem Directorate.
The funeral service will take place today, Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in New York at the Young Israel of Forest Hills, 7100 Yellowstone Boulevard, Forest Hills NY, (718) 268-7100.
Eli Zborowski was born in the Polish town of Zarki, and survived the Holocaust to rebuild his life in the United States. Always an ardent Zionist, he was very proud of his children and grandchildren who live in Israel. He was a distinctive pioneer and a pillar of Holocaust Remembrance uniquely devoted to imparting its lessons and legacy to future generations.
Towards the end of the 1970s, Eli approached the leaders of Yad Vashem with the idea of establishing "Friends of Yad Vashem" organizations around the world.
Subsequently, he founded the American Society for Yad Vashem, which he led with unparalleled dedication for over 30 years - until the last day of his life.
Eli devoted his life to Yad Vashem and to Holocaust Remembrance and worked with us in solidarity and close partnership to commemorate the victims and impart the legacy of the survivors.
Eli would explain to those who sought to fathom the depth of his commitment to Yad Vashem, that the Jewish people's national center for Holocaust commemoration sits upon the Mount of Remembrance in Jerusalem, and it is there that Jews should focus their efforts.
That's what Eli would say, and that's precisely what Eli did.
Eli Zborowski was a fighter and a leader.
Eli was my friend a true partner, who labored unceasingly to help ensure that Yad Vashem would achieve its goals. You are invited to see the "In Memoriam" on the Yad Vashem website:

May his memory be blessed,
Shaya Ben Yehuda
Director of International Relations
